Elhuyar magazine was born in 1974 with the aim of adapting Basque to the scientific-technical field. As the language consolidates, this aspect lost strength to the benefit of the content. Thus, in December 1985 the zero number of the current magazine was published: Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknika.
In 2009 it became known as Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknologia. Along with the name was renewed and updated the design, format and contents of the magazine. And in the future we have made changes to suit the characteristics and demands of society. Among them, last year the website was renewed, offering content and functionalities that cannot be delivered on paper in the magazine.
Specifically, Elhuyar recently presented the "Study on Science and Technology in Basque Society 2012". In the Analysis section, the most relevant data and some reflections are presented, but it must be mentioned that, as the research has shown, young people are the ones who have the most interest in scientific issues and they turn to the internet for information. Therefore, we consider that strengthening the web was a good decision.
We want to continue to maintain our commitment to readers and society. Therefore, we intend to enrich the section of Free Topic, reproducing even more pages to the articles that you have sent. Yes, change, we continue with the same objective: to make known in Basque the science that is done in the world and in our country.
Finally, we have faced the future and given the Elhuyar brothers the leading role of the Stories section of this issue. They also have to celebrate it because the insulation of wolfram is 230 years old. In fact, on 28 September 1783 they succeeded in isolating and seizing wolfram. For this they had to do espionage work, but... On the inside pages you will find the whole story.
