He was born on April 28, 1957 in Biarritz. From his childhood he enjoyed a great spatial fondness and in 1977 he entered the air school of Salon-de-Provence.

In 1979 he obtained the degree of Aeronautical Engineer and the Pilot Diploma for Fighter Planes in 1980 and worked as a Fighter Pilot for 8 years.

In 1988 he entered the Air Center of Brétigny-sur-Org, where he tested military and civilian aircraft. In 1990 he was appointed a trial pilot and that same year he passed the selective tests for the French National Space Research Centre (CNES). He made two training stays in the City of the Stars of Russia in 1991 and 1993, being elected astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1992. The possibility of making a space flight came in 1996, when he was appointed chief astronaut of the Péase mission of the CNES at the MIR space station. In 1998 Eiharts spent three weeks at MIR, thus materializing his childhood dream. Upon her return, in August 1998, ESA was chosen to form at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, and has since been
working on it.
