The Earth is characterized by earthquakes as part of a set of properties that make it as it is. Without tectonics, without permanent movement of plates, the landscape would have been different and other living, and even geological activity is considered a condition for the development of one's life. This offers little comfort to those affected by the destruction of an earthquake and yet it is important to look at the world from time to time with wide angle. And the general plane that shows us where we live and where we come from does not detract from the needs and challenges presented to us in view of the scale of our lives, but on the contrary. In this issue we have approached earthquakes with wide angle and have collected the fundamental role that tectonics has played in the size of the characteristics of residential areas. However, we have not forgotten about the small scale and have immersed ourselves in the article entitled “What, yes, when, no” in the first of the list of tasks that seismologists have: predict when earthquakes will occur. They know quite well where, how and why earthquakes occur, and yet they have not yet been able to develop tools to reliably predict when they will occur. The system to be solved is a multivariate and highly complex system, and registration is far from complete. For example, seismologists themselves are surprised by the number of recent earthquakes: Since 1900 seven earthquakes have exceeded magnitude 8.8 and have occurred in the last six years. Following this data, at the April meeting of the US Seismological Association. also talked about whether a series of large earthquakes has been lit, although later the hypothesis was ruled out. And it is that the current knowledge does not give reason for it, and it is possible that it only has an apparent result of incomplete statistics or strict zoom. All of them are the knowledge of the part “When, no”. However, we cannot leave out of the plane that thanks to the part “What, yes” we know enough to take preventive measures and that, although we have not developed this aspect in this number, it is the variable that is in our hands.
