They discover that an olfactory receptor regulates hair growth. In laboratory experiments with human scalp, sandal vapor has been observed to cause hair growth. It has been reported in the journal Nature Communications.

When olfactory receptors that contain some specialized nasal cells detect odorous molecules, we take odours. However, other cells in the body also have olfactory receptors that may have other functions. Instead, they have found that hair follicles contain OR2AT4 olfactory receptors. And in some experiments with synthetic sandal vapor they have seen that this vapor stimulates hair growth, reducing the death of keratin causing cells and increasing the production of a growth factor.
