Organic farming has more and more strength in Spain, both in production and in marketing.
In 1991 this type of agriculture occupied only 4,235 hectares and has since grown dramatically, especially since 1996. For 2001 485,079 hectares were cultivated and last year 665,055 hectares. That is, in a year organic farming has increased more than 37%.
On the other hand, Andalusia is the autonomous community that uses the most soil for organic farming, followed by Extremadura and Aragón.
These data have been provided by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which along with agriculture has experienced a notable increase in ecological livestock.
