Irradiation: first problems

Last November, a U.S. company specializing in breakfast cereals announced the disruption of irradiated food production. Then other companies made similar predictions.

A research company explains the key to the problem: “Elements irradiated with cobalt 60 or cesium 137 are broken down, but then decomposed elements are recombined creating unknown elements.” These unknown elements are the ones that worry.

Prejudices against radiation have been strengthened in many places and in some states action has begun.
