Incidences Iodine

This mineral, called iodine, is essential for the body to produce thyroid hormones. These thyroid hormones intervene in growth, reproduction, metabolism and other systems that regulate more than 100 implant systems. Therefore, when this mineral is missing the thyroid gland grows into what is known as goiter. Consequently, it decreases the rate of metabolism, hinders physical and mental activity, slightly increases dry hair, etc. are delivered.

Therefore, it is necessary that the diet cover our iodine needs, 150 micrograms daily are necessary in normal conditions, while in pregnancy and lactation 175-200 micrograms.

Since iodine is found especially in marine waters, all marine products (seafood, marine fish, algae) are rich in iodine and along with them also vegetables grown in coastal lands, a much higher amount than that of the interiors.

Iodine salt, as they say in the campaign promoted by the Department of Health of the Basque Government, is rich in iodine. The salt obtained naturally from the sea contains iodine that loses in its process. However, a quantity of salt is mixed with iodine before marketing and sold as iodized salt.

However, the lack of iodine is not only due to iodine intake, but there are substances that reduce iodine intake in food. These substances are found mainly in all members of the cabbage family: cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels cabbage and lombard. Also on the reddish peanut skin. Therefore, take these meals at most once a week and try not to eat at the same meal that you will eat some marine product. For example, do not eat cauliflower or anchovies in the same meal.
