On skis evolution can be measured annually. Together with the new materials, special bonding systems of the different parts have been explained. In this way, skis, along with good gliding, get excellent results in different snow. Initially they were made of wood, then aluminum and in addition the union between different pieces has been made in the form of sandwich.
In December 1989 the French company Solomon presented a new model. This ski is single-block fiberglass. This model has more snow fixation than the previous one. Small blocks of higher density material are placed to cushion vibrations.
On the other hand, a ski should have a good glide, so the friction coefficient between skiing and snow should be low. In this sense, continuous investigations are being carried out that have led to the implementation of the method called "chlorinated lubrication". The sole, made with a polymer similar to teflon, has given very good results.
