Green economy as a pomo
In the September issue, we have played a leading role in the environment because circumstances demand it. One of humanity's great challenges today is to question this unsustainable way of life and give a firm response to this global environmental emergency. And as a means of communication, it is up to us to transmit the transparent, accurate and clear scientific information necessary to enable this response.
We have therefore provided qualified opinions. The economist Mirene Begiristain Zubillaga and biologist Arturo Elosegi Irurtia have made a profound reflection on the ecological economy. According to them, “taking care of the environment means taking care of ourselves”. And in the debate about the global loss of biodiversity, we've also put on the table variables that move away from the usual visions, with the environmental economist Unai Pascual García de Azilu: the emotional values that connect us with nature, the adherence to the Basque and the opinion of the indigenous communities that live fully integrated in nature. These are factors that have not been considered so far, but which can help to move away from the instrumentalist vision of development and the economy and to draw a sustainable future.
In the analysis section we have focused on the commodification of the human body. The continuing advances in medicine and biotechnology generate hope in many fields, but concerns are increasingly heard: life patents, artificial fertility management, privatization... Some experts already talk about new forms of exploitation of the human body. We have received the views of the jurist Itziar Alkorta Idiakez and anthropologist Miren Guilló Arakistain.
Finally, we have given the floor to the trees. In its insides the thread of time appears and from them we can get the story story. This shows part of the history of Euskal Herria, such as the creation of houses. The wood rings and vetas have collected the cover of the magazine and the surprising landscapes of Mars.
