A brutal explosion at a distance

A brutal explosion at a distance
01/05/2008 | Elhuyar

On March 19, NASA's Swift satellite detected the largest explosion of gamma rays ever observed from Earth. It could be observed at the naked eye of the Earth, although it occurred about twenty thousand light-years. This explosion was caused by the collapse caused by the death of a massive star. According to some scientists, if it had occurred in the middle of the Milky Way, we would have seen from Earth the brightness that shines the Sun at noon.
