Vaccination in Israel until February 24, 2021. Ed. Rossman et al. 2021, Nature Medicine

A study on the impact of the vaccination campaign in Israel has shown that as they are incorporated, cases of COVID-19 and hospital admissions have decreased considerably. This study has been published in the journal Nature Medicine.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has analyzed data collected between 28 August 2020 and 24 February 2021. Israel began its vaccination campaign on December 20, where people over 16 are being vaccinated bnt162b2 (BioNTech-Pfizer). On 24 February 50% of the population received the first dose and 34% both doses, and 69% and 48% of the population over 16 years.

Different comparisons have been made to differentiate the effect of vaccines from other factors. For example, it is observed that in the age ranges that have had priority for vaccination, the decline in cases and income is higher. In the analyzed period, 85% of people older than 60 years received both vaccines, while in that age range cases of COVI-19 decreased by 77% and hospital admissions by 70%. On the other hand, a greater incidence has been detected in cities that have led the most advanced vaccination campaign. It is concluded that the vaccination campaign is having a real impact on the evolution of the pandemic.
