On 2 September the OSIRIS camera of the Rosetta probe found the Philae module on the cover of comet 67P. At that time Rosetta was 2.7 km away from the comet. Rosetta's mission will end on September 30, with the drop of the probe to the comet, and they did not expect Philae to receive images during this time, so it has been a new surprise.
The image allowed engineers to understand why they were unable to establish communication between Rosetta and Philae: Philae's orientation prevents it. However, the leaders of the ESA have described the mission as successful, since although not everything has gone as planned, the results have been really good.
