Greater responsibility than expected by the RNA

Despite its variety, RNA was considered not to have a very responsible role in the cell, at least as DNA and proteins. However, the so-called microRNA or small RNA, have seen it regulates a lot of human genes, about a third of the genome.

The existence of microRNA in humans has been recently known in 2000. Their work consists of associating certain messengers of RNA and inhibiting the production of proteins, regulating the production of proteins of the genes.

The researchers have compared the data of the human genome with those of the dog, the chicken, the mouse and the rat. The microRNA containing these species in the bath and the genes that encode proteins have been taken into account and the union between them has been sought. Well, they observe that the regulation of a third of the genes of these species is very similar — through microRNA — so it has hardly varied from the common ancestor of these species (which lived 310 million years ago).
