Eat well, live better

The Department of Preventive Medicine of the University of the Basque Country has concluded that the continued consumption of vegetables and/or fruits strengthens the defense system of our organism.

It is known that eating vegetables is very good for health. Without knowing the recent research, anyone knows that one of the ways to live healthy is to look at what we do. The report published by the Department of Preventive Medicine of the University of the Basque Country in the magazine The Lancet reveals the relationship between what we eat and our standard of living.

More specifically, they have analyzed the relationship between fresh foods and cardiovascular diseases and concluded that the continued consumption of vegetables and/or fruits strengthens the defense system of our organism. For example, while fat consumption in Italy is increasing (in the last 20 years the annual consumption rate has increased from 4 to 10 kilos per person), the number of deaths from cardiovascular disease has decreased.

The researchers of the UPV-EHU have analyzed the causes of the rate drop and concluded that the growing consumption of vegetables has had a direct effect. The other side of the coin is Eastern European countries. It reduces the consumption of fresh food from 100 to 5 grams in the winter months.
