Stays at MIR and Skylab

In 1973 the United States put the Skylab into orbit. This 90-ton laboratory was completed with the launcher Saturn V and was visited three times by astronauts. The stays were one month, two months and three months. It was abandoned the year of its orbit and in 1979 it fell to Earth.

Since then, the Soviet Union has long kept astronauts in space. American astronauts have made a maximum stay of 84 days and the Soviets have beaten all the marks. Vladimir Titov and Possa Maranov spent 366 days around the Earth in the MIR laboratory. Valeri Poliakov arrived at the MIR laboratory on 10 January and will not return until 14 months. It will be next year on Earth.
