Methane in the terrestrial mantle

Because laboratory conditions were similar to those in the Earth's mantle, methane reserves may exist under the ground.

Fossil fuel reserves on Earth do not depend entirely on fossils. In fact, scientists have managed to produce methane in the laboratory using inorganic materials. Because laboratory conditions were similar to those in the Earth's mantle, methane reserves may exist under the ground.

However, although they found gas reserves at these depths, they could not reach them, since today they only bore it up to 10 kilometers deep to extract the gas.
