Infrared to know the state of the Earth

The U.S. Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is testing a prototype capable of analyzing in situ the main parameters of the Earth. The device is an infrared refractometer that receives the radiations that reflect the Earth. Measurements allow to know the amount of organic matter, nitrogen, etc.

If there are no significant differences with respect to conventional measurements, the researchers intend to replace the chemical analyses performed to know the state of the Earth and the fertilizers to use.
