North American climatologists have analyzed in two ice columns the history of the winds of the South Pole for 40,000 years to the present day. The formation of the layers over time has been investigated in the ice columns, and the accumulated dust has determined when there was much wind. According to the researchers, the data will serve to improve and complement climate models.
