A patient with facial paralysis regains the ability to smile by inserting two parts of the leg into the face. The intervention took place at the University Clinic of Navarra. On both sides of the face a part of the rectum muscle inside the thigh has been injected into the patient and the nerves and blood vessels of these parts have been attached. The patient should make a kind of gag movement to smile. Subsequently, with the help of rehabilitation, the brain will assume the new function of the muscle introduced.
