Chemicals and antibiotics present in soaps and deodorants, among others, reach rivers and contaminate water. This result is explained in a study carried out in thirty states of the United States, in which it is indicated that despite purifying the used water, remains of antibiotics and other chemicals escape from the treatment plant.
Among the chemicals found in river water are tergitola, ciprofloxacin antibiotic anti-infections and the common antibiotic in triclose. These substances prevent algae growth, leaving fish and other animals without food and life disappears in contaminated rivers.
These chemicals have been found primarily in discharges near farms and hospitals, but river waters are also contaminated with commonly used products.
