They confirm that 50 million years ago the Arctic was temperate
A group of international researchers have received submarine sediments in the Arctic Ocean and confirmed that the climate of the North Pole was thawed and temperate 50 million years ago.
In the submarine dorsal Lomonosov, 900 meters deep, the researchers have excavated 400 meters and collected the sediments of the area. From their analysis have reached the same conclusion researchers from several countries, that is, 50-80 million years ago the waters of the North Pole presented temperatures between 18ºC and 23ºC, surprising data because the climatic models used so far do not predict such a high temperature.
When explaining the causes of this temperate climate, global factors have been proposed, such as the existence of intense volcanic activity, the release of large amounts of methane from the deep sea, and the warming of the climate by strong hurricanes. As a result, polar ice melted, setting in motion a crazy wheel. In fact, the ice reflects the sun's rays and emits them out of the atmosphere, but the seas, on the other hand, absorb all those solar rays and provoke a warmer climate.
