He had a record of follow-up from the satellite, which followed for 2,033 days to the stork called Donna through a transmitter on his back. The stork was white (Ciconia ciconia) and was in fertile age when he died.
Donna was part of the "Storks without borders" campaign launched in Belgium. Since its installation in 1999, biologists have analyzed the characteristics of the bird. Thanks to this they know that in 2004 he tried to reproduce in Brittany, but he did not succeed. In addition, through this technique they have known the last days of their life.
That departed from Seville on 11 February 2005, being ten days in the area of Madrid and arriving on 4 March to the Calvados of Brittany, the same place of the previous year. But the next day he was found dead, near the estuary of the Seine River. He has been followed daily, but has not been able to prevent Donna's death. The animal died on the high voltage cable by an electric shock.
High voltage cables pose a great risk to birds, but this problem can be solved according to biologists. In the natural park of Doñana, for example, the cables were buried, which quickly decreased the number of dead birds.
