Greenhouse gases: lower emissions

In 2002, European industrialized countries emitted less greenhouse gases than before.

According to the latest data published by the
European Environment Agency, in 2002 European industrialized countries emitted less greenhouse gases than before. Although emissions have increased in previous years, emissions have decreased by 0.5% in the period 2001-2002.

The greatest difference has been detected in methane and nitrogen dioxide, whose reduction is due to an improvement in waste management. However, Europe remains far from the targets set by the Kyoto Protocol.
