Cars, more than a billion by 2050
At the last meeting held by the Sociedad de Ciencias del Sistema Terrestre (ESSP) the result of an economic study was presented in which the number of private cars will increase from 600 million to 1,400 million and 2,700 million by 2050. The prediction they have made in this regard is that double or quadruple amount of carbon dioxide will be emitted.
Currently, the main trend is the use of private cars, the most used mode of transport. People buy more and more cars and this trend is spreading, especially to Asia. In Asia, petroleum products are increasingly destined for the supply of cars.
Transport is the main fossil fuel and is believed to continue to be so in the future. This means the need to develop new energy sources for transport. Fortunately, they are researching and developing cars that use biofuels, hydrogen or electric. The continuity of these studies is urgent to avoid, as far as possible, carbon dioxide emissions.
