After a theorem

We asked UPV/EHU mathematician Javi Duoandikoetxea to recommend an informative book and chose a special author's book: French Cedric Villani, winner of a Fields medal.
teorema-baten-atzetik 400

Cedric Villan tells the process to achieve an important mathematical result. It becomes an obsession, but that is not special, as the same happens when several scientists pursue a goal. However, in the case of Villani there is another intention that does not hide from the beginning: Obtaining the Fields medal in 2010, last chance by age. After having won some awards for the work done so far, he knows he can be a candidate for Fieldse and believes that a good result would help him a lot.

This is a project carried out in collaboration with Clement Mouhot, thesis student and collaborator. They work in a "modern" way. Not many times they are together, but they are in continuous contact over the Internet. Many parts of the book are emails that are sent to each other. Write one message and after a few minutes another and then another.

Villan cannot interrupt. Despite being with the family, also at home needs spaces to continue with what is happening around.

It shows confidence in getting it, but also doubts. He also mentions some of his talks on the subject, with the work still unfinished, and the nervousness that this generates, before the questions that the expert listeners will ask him. In the end, all this will serve the authors to see the weaknesses of the work and improve the final version. This was accepted for publication after rejecting the first version.

Themes and places are also an excuse to throw characters. Some historical (of the history of mathematics) and others of today.
