Frank R. Wilson is already retired and has left the University of California. He is a prestigious neurologist who, in addition to his university work, has worked on outreach. It is an informative book on hand physiognomy, not a textbook for experts. The preamble explains that hand activity activates the body early in the morning and observes its uses during the day. From there begins a text with a totally original approach.
It speaks of evolution, biomechanics, neurology, physics and many other fields of science, using puppets, musicians, work of growers, car mechanics, etc. References to these topics are, in some cases, tools to explain the functioning of the hands and in others, activities directly related to the hand.
On this path, Wilson analyzes a theory that emerged long ago: much of what makes us human is the contribution of the activity of the hands. Anthropology and many other sciences unite their hands and Wilson uses them to reflect on the nature of the human being.
The book is well documented. Combining Wilson's personal and professional experiences with traditional scientific information, the result is a very readable text.
