There is no field in which the echo of new materials is not appreciated: medicine, energy, transport, construction, electronics, textiles, etc. In fact, the advances being made in materials have a great influence on our daily lives and on the productive fabric. In the Basque Country there are a large number of people working in this field, both in the basic science of materials and in applied and technological science. It is a well-developed area in universities, technology centers and local companies, as demonstrated by the 120 researchers gathered at the Congress of Science and Materials Technology.

This dossier contains the works awarded at the Congress of Science and Materials Technology held last July in Donostia. On this occasion, with Polymat, of the UPV/EHU, this congress has brought together for the second time Basque researchers from the sector, giving continuity to what was done in 2012 in Arrasate. In view of the evaluation of the organizers, it can be said that the third edition will arrive without any error, since the presentations of the 120 attendees to the congress have been valued as very satisfactory. As for the research and results presented, the papers were similar to those presented at international congresses, and very good in terms of resources and language used.

One of the objectives of the congress is to promote scientific activity in Basque among researchers. In line with this objective, in this special dossier of the magazine Elhuyar we have gathered the best papers presented in the five areas of knowledge that have constituted the congress.
