The success of the latest generation of video games shows that today's children live in the computer world, a very common tool in their daily lives. However, there are many parents who still look with suspicion at games, thinking they may have misuse or content that does not fit the age.
On the other hand, many ask why the educational potential of video games is not exploited. Why not combine the playful nature of video games with educational content? With this objective, the Elhuyar Foundation has decided to make a CD-ROM for each of the primary education cycles and has just published the first CD-ROM for the first cycle, aimed at children from 5 to 8 years old.
In this game for PC computers, the spider Armix will have to find the mysterious evil that has stolen honey from the bees. To do this, he gets into the magical forest and tramples the wicked, discovering who is behind this intrigue.
As for the use of the game, it can be classified as a platform game. The protagonist has to go from one stage to another overcoming the obstacles presented to him. In addition to these obstacles, you will be presented with questions about language, mathematics and knowledge of the environment, which you will have to answer correctly to advance the game.
Graphically, the game develops in a three-dimensional environment, and is therefore very spectacular, but it is played in a two-dimensional environment (moving forward, backwards, to the right and to the left), a more appropriate system for children of 5-8 years.
The Elhuyar Foundation offers on its website (including demo and video) the possibility to try this new product, which can be a very appropriate gift for children of these ages. www.elhuyar.org
