Elhuyar effect
Creativity, collaboration, outreach and interdisciplinarity. Last October the CAF-Elhuyar 2013 awards were published under the slogan "The Elhuyar effect". About to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1994 edition, with the aim of attracting new writers to the dissemination of science in Basque, the 2013 edition recalled another anniversary: how, in September 1783, Fausto and Juan José Elhuyar published the wolfram in the bulletin of the Real Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del País. The discovery took place in the seminary of Bergara, among others, under the impulse of the Count of Peñaflorida, Xabier Munibe.
This year, the CAF-Elhuyar Awards have approached Bergara and held at the Errekalde Palace, seat of the Count of Peñaflorida, the award ceremony with the aim of recognizing the heritage of these creators and putting them in value for the future through collaboration, outreach and interdisciplinarity.
Elhuyar magazine has joined the Elhuyar effect and in this issue two award-winning papers have been published in the category of outreach articles: the best general disclosure article and the best disclosure article based on the author's thesis.
And like Elhuyar magazine, many more have been added. For example, the City of Bergara, with the scientific museum Laboratorium that will open in the same palace Errekalde. In fact, the "Elhuyar effect" is not owned by Elhuyar, nor is it limited to the 2013 edition of the CAF-Elhuyar awards.
Since last September the movement of the network of dissemination of scientific culture in Basque has been creativity, collaboration, dissemination and interdisciplinarity. Chemist Jon Mattin Matxain created on Twitter the initiative #Culture Zientzia, which has become a virtual festival. The festival, which has had 120 contributions over three months, has shown that we have a healthy community to live and spread scientific culture in Basque online.

And just as the CAF-Elhuyar awards will have their 2014 edition, the Scientific Culture festival will also have a second edition. The website of Elhuyar Zientzia.net has already taken the witness. There is no shortage of reasons to celebrate it.
