There are words that become fashionable and lose meaning. This is the danger of the words innovation and interaction, which have become a symbol of many without explaining well what they mean by it.

In any case, for Elhuyar they have a clear meaning, and it is that we have started a new era and we believe that both are key to responding to the future, along with other words such as leadership, updating and adaptation.

The new president of Elhuyar, Txema Pitark, explains in the interview that we have published in this issue what these words mean for Elhuyar and what importance they have in our mission. By the way, as CEO of nanoGUNE, we have also consulted on their responsibilities in this organization and, above all, on their research. It is difficult to talk about all this without mentioning the word innovation.

And the word interaction also has a great prominence in this issue, since we have published in the last pages winning works of two categories of the contest CAF-Elhuyar: a general informative article and based on the thesis of the author. The contest, however, has two other categories, one of which is new: the scholarship of creation in science society.

Elhuyar has created this scholarship with the aim of supporting projects that work on the interaction between science and technology and society, and we are pleased that the call has been successful. Different projects have been presented: artistic, sociological... Many of them, very interesting, so it has not been easy for the jury to decide which projects the grant has been awarded.

Finally, the Balioak project has received the scholarship. The project meets all the criteria for evaluating the work presented, especially in the search for the interaction between science and technology and society, the impulse of interdisciplinarity, social interest and attractiveness.

Now, the scholarship team has nine months to develop the project. Without discarding other words, innovation and interaction are also key to them! We will know.
