This has been nothing more than a step in the planning to be carried out for 5 years for the dismantling of the nuclear power plant. The total dismantling of the plant will cost $98 million (see Elhuyar. Science and Technology 1, 22. Page. ).
The Shippingport plant is located near the American city of Pittsburg and was built in 1957. It was the first nuclear power plant to work in the world to obtain electricity. It closed in 1982 and the dismantling work began in 1986.
Special interest deserves the dismantling of the Shippingport plant. Not only because it is the first to be dismantled, but because before 2000 only in the United States it will have to dismantle another fifteen power plants.
