Xenon, less noble

Xenon, less noble
01/07/2008 | Elhuyar

Xenon is one of the noble gases, that is, it is very stable, so chemically it has hardly any activity. Chemists and physicists, however, have tried to obtain compounds that contain xenon for a long time and have done about 80. They have recently managed to react with water at the University of Helsinki and have formed the HXeOXeH molecule. And that has put researchers on the path of revealing a mystery: in the atmosphere there is less xenon than there should be. Now they think he could react with water and is on the rocks of the Earth.
