If the Yang-tsen-Kiang River, better known among us as the Blue River, does not stop dragging so many mud, it will soon be the Yellow River. The Yellow River contains a worldwide recall among sludge transporters. The situation of the long Chinese river has aggravated scientists.
The problem lies in the enormous deforestation that is taking place in the first stretch of the riverbed. Deforestation causes strong erosion and rainwater drags mud into the river. It currently has 400 g of sludge more than in 1967.
The Yang-tsen-kiang flood rate is equal to the sum of the flood rates of the Nile, Amazon and Mississippi rivers.
