Luminous chip

Texas Instruments researchers prepare the new Dallas optical chip.

Texas Instruments researchers prepare the new Dallas optical chip. Chief James Yuan said that the usual use of copper in chips limits the performance of computers. The 32 conventional links for the transmission of binary information will be replaced by a single optical link thanks to its new invention. With the use of optical links, a 20% reduction in energy consumption and size is expected.

This new chip is the first to combine silicon with gallium arsenide electroluminescent diodes. These optical link microprocessors are expected to extend over the next ten years, with a minimum reduction of 15% in manufacturing costs.
