Tiger Rescue

The nature protection organization WWF has denounced in August the serious situation of the tiger and the failure of the initiatives of the groups for its conservation. Research conducted by scientists has shown that the number of tigers today is only 5% in 1900. On the other hand, they point out that the ability to preserve the genetic diversity of the different subspecies harms the species. Conservation groups have tried to maintain the different subspecies of the tiger, so the tiger inhabits dispersed small population reserves, decreasing genetic quality.

According to these scientists it is necessary to create "natural corridors" between dispersed habitats to favor the diversity of the tiger, even if subspecies are lost. Based on these ideas, WWF has analyzed numerous habitats in India, Indochina and South-West Asia, of which it has selected the most suitable ones to initiate a new conservation strategy.
