Plutonios green light

Assembly of the Galileo probe.

American scientists who oppose the use of nuclear energy in space will make an exception with NASA's Galileo probe. The Galileo probe that will go to Jupiter will get energy from two plutonium generators (238).

Each of the two power plants, known as isotope thermoelectric generators, has 11 kg of plutonium oxides (IV), will produce 4.2 kW of heat. Thermoelectric cells will transform heat into electricity.

The accident during launch can produce a lot of radioactivity into the atmosphere. However, NASA will adopt strict security measures.
