To protect the historical heritage, several research centers have developed a new anti-graffiti product within a European project. Among these centers is Labein-Tecnalia.
The new product is adapted to the special needs of historical heritage materials, generally porous and eroded. The product repels water, adheres well, does not alter too much color and brightness, does not significantly reduce water vapor permeability and drying speed against other products on the market, and is resistant to natural aging and ultraviolet light aging. In addition, the formulation is not harmful to the environment, does not dissolve in water or other standard organic solvents and has an acceptable cleaning efficiency.
In addition to the protective product against graffiti, which is applied before the realization of graffiti, the researchers have developed a specific cleaning system compatible with the protective product.
