Iberdrola and Tecnalia Corporación Tecnológica, in the framework of the Oceantek project, have installed on the Gipuzkoan coast the first prototype of power generation from the waves, specifically in Pasaia. The aim of this initiative is to launch a high performance and competitive cost wave energy capture device.

This first prototype has been made at 1:4 scale and will be in the testing phase for several months to check its performance and ensure that it presents no risks to the environment. If the technical checks are favorable, Iberdrola and Tecnalia plan to develop a new device of real size and connected to the power grid.

This second plant, in which both companies work, will have a power of 500 kilowatts (kW) and will be able to produce renewable energy enough to supply the consumption of 950 households per year.
