News database on CD-ROM

This CD-ROM has 60,000 records and gathers the news published in the written press, both abroad and in the state, from late 1988 to March this year.

The first CD-ROM with press news was recently presented in Madrid. The project began in late 1988 and has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the houses “Media Documentation” and “Micronet”. The CD-ROM will be renewed quarterly updating the database. It is expected to incorporate 60,000 new annual records. As for the subject, 60% of the information contained in the CD-ROM corresponds to the Economic-Financial Area, while the rest of the articles refer to Politics, Society and Culture, and Science and Technology.

The information recorded on the optical disc has been obtained from 141 Spanish and 70 foreign sources, of which 100 are general information journals and 60 of economic and financial information.

The Micronet CD-Knosys program has been used for data recovery. This software provides different levels of consultation depending on the user experience in the document database query system. Logical agents, parentheses, descriptors, etc. in consultations. They can be used. On the other hand, the consultation can be carried out in different ways: chronologically, according to the medium that has published, by themes, by the protagonist of the news, etc.
