The same biologist who discovered the smallest frogs and lizards in the world --Blair Hedges - has now found the smallest snake. All three are located on the Caribbean islands. In fact, larger and smaller animal species are found on the islands, which are a clear example of this phenomenon.
The snake is called Leptotyphlops carlae and has an approximate maturity length of 100 mm. According to Hedges, there can hardly be a smaller snake than this one, as it would not find food to measure; like other small snakes, it eats larvae of iñurris and termites.
