It seems that during the exit migration from Africa man followed the coastal route. To reach this conclusion, the mitochondrial DNA of some indigenous peoples in the area of India and Malaysia has been analyzed, and it has been compared with those of neighboring peoples to know when they were distributed.
The research has been carried out by two groups, with different villages, and has reached the same conclusion: it was a single migratory wave that probably toured the coast, since, according to the climate records, there was a more inland desert.
