Monodelphis domestica is a small zarigueia that lives in the trees of South America even if it looks like a rodent, it is marsupial, like koala and kangaroo.

It has now become the first martsupial with the sequenced genome. In fact, this zarigüeia is used as an example in the laboratory to investigate certain human diseases, developmental biology, and immunogenetics. Therefore, scientists believe that knowing their genome will be of great use to advance in these fields.
