The Italian physicist Ettore Majorana announced in 1937 the existence of a fermion and in 2012 they have detected it for the first time. Majorana is a special fermioia for its own antiparticle. Physicist Paul Dirac showed that each particle has an antiparticle, equal in mass, but with charge and opposite parity. In the case of photons and many other bosons, the particle itself is the same, since its own antiparticle, charge and parity are zero, but only Majorana was foreseen among the fermions. Now, 75 years after Majorana's announcement, physicists at Delft University have detected it.
