The bald of Ainarra

We have already mentioned and analyzed several times the family of the Ericaceae and in this number we will be able to know better the genus erika thanks to the beautiful plant Ainarra burusoila.

In general, the different species that appear within this genus are the bushes or bushes, with their hermaphrodite flowers located in the limetals. In this sense, some 600 species have been described, most in southern Africa, 14 species have been detected and 4 hybrids in the peninsula and in the Basque Country 8 species are known.

The bald of Ainarra is a forest that will barely go through the 80 cm, with strung stems and illegal youth bids. Its leaves are linear structures, illegal and twisted edges, located in verticils of 4-5. Lore elkartea is a compact panicle; pink corolla lilac and sometimes a white panicle. It flowers between June and October and gives the fruit in ovate capsule.

In western Europe it is easy to find and sought after in the Basque Country, stretching from sea level to the Pyrenean summits in scrub and heath of oak, beech, holm oak and carrascals. If we go south, it will decrease and the climate is completely lost in the regions affected by the Mediterranean.

The eel is known among us for being the most common of its genera. Therefore, being a known plant, it has different names: ainarra burusoila, brezo burusoila, astilarra, txirrintxirra, ginarrea, pea, ash, inarra, borozo, etc. It is a plant much appreciated as melifero and very used as ornamental.
