In 1988, 56% more CDs were sold in the US, Japan and Europe than in 1987. The climb is expected to continue in 1989. Last year 540 million units were sold in these locations. As for readers, Japan is at the forefront, with 20% compact disc readers. The US and Europe are around 15%.
On the other hand, and looking ahead, compact discs are expected to occupy most of the market.
