It is discovered near the border with China and is named Xanthocyparis vietnamensis (Vietnamese golden cypress). This group of researchers has been researching Vietnam's vegetation for years and have already discovered more than 100 new plant species. It is the most important of all golden cypress, as it is a large tree in which there may be other unknown species. The closest relative to the new species is the Nootka cypress of the west coast of the United States.
