Paleontologists have discovered new evidence in favor of small dinosaurs living around the poles of Earth. These dinosaurs were able to overcome the cold and dark winter that lasted months. Traditional ideas have always described dinosaurs as tropical or subtropical animals.
Recent fossils found in Southeast Australia indicate that dinosaurs lived in the Cretaceous near the South Pole 130-105 million years ago. The average temperature per hour was 5ºC and the minimum of -6ºC. At least in the three winter months the dinosaurs had no sun; in a fortnight the moonlight and in the next darkness.
This Australian is not the only finding in this line. In 1987 the dinosaurs that lived in the Arqutico were released.
These two discoveries indicate that the disappearance of the dinosaurs that occurred at the end of the cretaceous, 65 million years ago, could not be only the cause of cold and darkness, if they were not kept for a long time.
