Researchers from the University of Bern have shown that a plant considered invasive in the Galapagos Islands, Hibiscus diversifolius, is actually an indigenous plant. The expansion of this plant in the Galapagos is very fast, and scientists working in the environmental programs of the area believed that they came from some region of the Pacific and were vacating their plants. And they were already working on plans for plant destruction.

The team of the University of Bern has found pollen seeds of this plant in ancient sediments prior to the arrival of man to the Galapagos. Therefore, it has shown that it is from there in itself. It seems that a great fire occurred in the mid-twentieth century devastated most of them and is now recovering lost space.
