First step to know the human proteome

The human proteome recognition project will take many years to develop and since the path is long, researchers will have to go step by step. First, blood plasma will be investigated, as plasma proteins are easily obtained and this information will help diagnose many diseases. With this objective, the Institute of Plasma Proteome (PPI) has been established.

The diagnosis with proteins present in the plasma is not new; an analysis allows to analyze 150 proteins. But as it is very expensive, it is only done in certain cases. If the plasma proteome project is carried out, simple diagnostic tests can be performed for each disease.
