They have discovered the location of the old ports of Sidon and Tyros, today under the urban area.

These two cities of Lebanon were important commercial ports for the Phoenicians about three thousand years ago. Since then, cities have changed a lot and experts had no trace of those ancient ports. Now, researchers from the European geosciences centre CEREGE wanted to know the location of the coast in ancient times. To do this, surveys have been conducted in forty urban areas and have been analyzed and dated seeds, woods, etc. of sediments that have allowed to deduce the location of the ports.
